Need your opinion on the quality of tiling done in my house
Dear All
Firstly, i would like to apologize to write in English, my Swedish is still not enough good to write about important topic.
If i open a thread here, it is to have your opinion on the work done in my house. work done by a professional.
I have ordered special tiles in 2 bathrooms and in the kitchen.
For the kitchen, we wanted to have only one tile but as it was impossible, we have been advised to order rectified tile (60 by 120 cm) with a dark joint, and the result will be a joint almost invisible.
This is the result:
with a zoom in the joint:
Really invisible?
For the first bathroom, only a picture can present what the tiler did:
This picture is taken in the corner between dark and light wall in the following picture:
Please, could you tell me what do you think about this shift between horizontal joint?
Finally, for the second bathroom, we have the same issue with the shift between dark and light tiles, as in the following pictures:
But the worse is about the mosaic (delimiting the shower). Some of the issues are presented in the following pictures:
I think that the technical part (water resist wall for instance) is well done but i think that the aesthetic side has been totally scamp.
Please, could you tell me what you think about this work (in English or Swedish, google translate is my friend)?

Welcome to Byggahus!
Well, what can I say, Invisible? If you turn off the lights, maybe then.
Horrible performance with mosaic, close too the floor. The shift between dark and light tiles are not synchronized, left side (light tiles) seems to be lower than dark tiles.
This work is not well performed, I feel sorry on your behalf.
So, like I said, welcome to Sweden...
Reclaim, nothing else too do.
Best regards P-A.

The mosaik part is a bit sloppy but otherwise this is what you can expect.
Refuse to pay or refuse to pay a part of the invoice until it has been corrected. Also, be very clear to point out what you expect to have altered in order to avoind that kind of mishap,
Beautiful tiles in the ktichen by the way!

I see nothing wrong with the kitchen and batroom tile, the joint will always be visiable it will never look like one pice, if you push the tiles toghether the joints will look like cracks instead.
Its done the correct way, but he could have used a darker color.
But it will always be visible.
Regarding the moasic.
Usually the mosaic is not applied square by square, its a large sheet attached to the wall, since the squares does not contain a stright line at any rows actually the dislocation is eqal from bottom and up, every row and squares has a dislocation / förskjutning and its equal on each row, id says its not due to the applying of the tiles its the sheet, maybe just the design.
They come in all shapes, stright squares, dislocated etc.
Do you have any sheets left, that are not applied, can you take a picture?
I agre every row has a dislocation on each square, if he applied square by square then its a disaster, not straight anyware, if applied sheet by sheet, then its the design of the tile how its applied on the sheet at manufacturing.
And then also totally correct that it gives a shifting square by square at the bottom , since sifted on every row on the applied sheets.

Thank all of you for your answers.
About the joint in the kitchen, i don't say that it is badly done, i just say that it is far from what they promised us (the current joint is currently 4-5 mm wide, and i was expecting something like 2 mm wide).
For the mosaic, i don't have any spare parts remaining from the initial work.
Do you think that it may worth to ask for an independent surveyor, or his conclusion will be that the work has been done according the rules ?

What rules?
The kitchen has a nice done standard size joint. And there is a limit of color selection. I guess you didn't specify or recieved a specification on what to get so you can't really prove a deviation?
Mosaik tiles could be fixed but you better accept the rest because you will not get it better

Hi Johannes,
When i speak about rules, i speak about the Handbook published by BKR, stating that with rectified tile, we can reach a joint width of 1.5 to 2 mm.
I have specified that i wanted the most little width possible for those joints in kitchen (i have an email where i request it, with a positive answer)

in my experience Swedish tilers almost never use narrow joints, they prefer 3-4 mm joints. I don't know if it is because of tradition, trade guidelines, or because Swedish tilers are less skilled than in some other countries. In for example Italy you regularly see 1-2 mm joints with perfectly laid tiles.
