Hi,

I need to buy from a Swedish online store a 4mm2 cable for usage on the kitchen for the big consumers. It's a regular kitchen, but my electrical design company has indicated me to use 4sqmm (4mm2) wires.

I cannot find this type of multi-wire conductors in the Swedish online stores and in K-rauta or Bauhaus they don't have. Can you please provide me a link where I can buy these cables from Sweden, with quick delivery for next week?

Does anyone uses 2.5mm2 cables in Sweden for major appliances? How 4mm2 cables sounds for you?

Thank you,
Andrei

Or maybe you recommend me to go for a cable with 5x 2.5mm wires, in order to use it for future extension from 220VAC to Y three-phase electric power configuration? Currently, my kitchen appliances all have 220VAC configuration.

From this 5x 2.5mm cable, I could use 2 wires in parallel, in order to increase the maximum current supported by the major appliances. I want to avoid cable overheating and I'm not sure of 2.5mm cables are enough.

So your apartment is feed with one single phase, not three phases? That sucks.

There are 4 mm² cables, but they are rare so they are both difficult to find and expensive. You need to talk to a electrician that can come up with this cable. 6 mm² is more easy to get hold of, and cheaper, but does usually come in black if you mean a cable, not conductors in pipes.

If you believe that your apartment will be updated with three phases, it is tempting to use a 5G2.5 mm² and use two conductors in parallel for the phase and neutral. The only problem is that it violates the regulations saying that the neutral shall be blue, and secondly, we don't do so... I would say it depends on how soon your apartment will get three phases.

If you mean the cable between outlet/junction box and the electrical aplliance you can use 2,5mm. Search the online stores for "gummikabel" and look for either 3G2,5 or 5G2,5.
But if it's the cable between the fuse box and the outlet you'll have to search for "RK" and go for either 4mm or 6mm

Bo.Siltberg: yes, it has only 2 phases. Most of the appliances available on the market they are now built for 220VAC and it's not that common to work with 380VAC. Or maybe I'm wrong, you know better the market.

From my knowledge, 380VAC triple-phase is used mainly for industrial environments. The cable should be multi copper wire (not single copper wire) because the shielding might crack easily for a single wire and it's very difficult to be manipulated on 90 degrees corners via PVC/copex pipes.

Regarding my apartment, I don't intend to upgrade it for 3-phase and I don't see the need of it, outside the regular electrical appliances from the kitchen, which are all using 220VAC. Another cost if I would replace them...

Emil_K: the cable which I need to replace is between the electrical panel and the outlet/junction box. It passes through the floors of my apartment, between living room to the kitchen.

As reference, I have attached you the schematic of my whole electrical panel. And the monster electrical panel, it has 550mm x 900mm x 148mm. It was designed in Romania (my origin country) by a company specialised in KNX automation systems. Of course, they have requested in their design to use 4mm to kitchen appliances and 2.5mm to normal outlets.

Note that in Romania some apartments built on communist time are still using aluminium conductors (single-wire, they are very cheap) or copper (single-wire, more expensive). Most electricians recommend minimum 2.5mm for normal outlets and 4mm for kitchen.

So, from here it comes my overall concern regarding the conductor's size.

Three phases does not mean that appliances run on 400 V, but they can if they want. The main advantage with three phases is that the load 230 V between L-N can be distributed among the three phases, which in practice mean that you can use a 5G2.5 mm² cable instead of 3G4 mm².

With only one phase, you are limited to maybe 25 A or whatever the main fuse to your apartment allows. That means 5.7 kW instead of 11 kW that you will get with three phase and 3x16 A. So, you cannot use all of your dishwashers, boilers etc and you cannot use the rated power of ovens, electrical stoves etc.

There are both conductors and cables in 4 mm². You can buy as a private person from the first store (elnu,se) but not from the second (storel.se):
