This is the post type we have, we want to add height to them but since they are metal and the 2 parts where you screw the rail are so close together I am unsure how much higher I can go above the top one with out causing my fence to fall or be too heavy.

If you are into making a wooden fence I suggest you grind off the steel “plates” on each side and drill holes through the post. Then you simply can fasten any wooden post you like by wooden screws through the holes.
Since the posts are casted in concrete they are very stable and you can probably add a serious amount of height.
