It's a question with as many answers as there are people. In general, using indirect lighting will create more of a homey feeling, but may not illuminate areas sufficiently where you need to see properly, especially during the Swedish winters. On the other hand, sharp bright lights will help you see, but will likely create. more sterile feeling.
I'd suggest a suitable combination of both, actually. Use indirect lighting such as lanterns for everyday use, and add some bright lights in the ceiling that you can switch on whenever you need to clean up or look for lost contact lenses
